Eco-Logic Awards 2015/16 – Certificate of Merit, Eco Innovation Award
The Enviropaedia is a South African environmental encyclopaedia and networking platform that promotes social and environmental sustainability. It educates and motivates consumers to purchase new emerging ‘green’ products, technologies and services from organisations that demonstrate their commitment to sustainability. Botanica was awarded a Certificate of Merit in the category Eco Innovation Award at the annual Eco-Logic Awards held in Cape Town.
SEED Initiative Awards – Winner SEED Accelerator South Africa 2015
The SEED Accelerator Awards is a partnership between SEED and the Inclusive Business Accelerator to support high potential start-up enterprises that integrate social and environmental benefits into their business model. Botanica has been announced the SEED Accelerator recipient at the SEED South Africa Symposium 2015 in Johannesburg. As a SEED Alumni, Botanica received an advanced support package that stretches over a period of one year and includes one-to-one advice as well as a financial contribution.
2015 South African SMME Award - 2nd runner-up, Most Innovative Sector
Africagrowth Institute is an independent company that focuses on growth opportunities in Africa. Botanica attended the Africagrowth Institute 2015 South Africa Small, Medium and Micro Enterprise (SMME) Awards at the Lord Charles Hotel in Somerset-West where the company won second runner up for the Most Innovative SMME in South Africa Award.
Indigenous Plant Use Forum - Award, Best Indigenous Plant Product of South Africa 2014
The Indigenous Plant Use Forum promotes the cultural, socio-economic and scientific benefits derived from the sustainable use of the southern African flora. Botanica’s product, BotanicaTIMOLA® (Bulbine frutescens leaf extract) was awarded the ‘Best Indigenous Plant Product’ of South Africa for 2014 at the Indigenous Plant Use Forum’s annual conference.
SEED Initiative Awards – Winner SEED Catalyser South Africa 2014
The SEED Initiative supports innovative start-up entrepreneurs around the world whose business approaches enable development of local communities and management of resources in an environmentally sustainable manner. Botanica has developed a method of extracting beneficial substances from Bulbine frutescens for the cosmetic industry. The plant is cultivated and processed organically in its indigenous location in rural Limpopo, and its commercial use provides employment opportunities in the marginalised area. The local community further benefits through an Access and Benefit Sharing agreement.
